TUM Game Development Club

The TUM Game Development Club was founded in October 2024 with the goal of making game development — a field with a notoriously high barrier to entry — more accessible to TUM students. Whether you are interested in art, programming, game design, or just want to meet like-minded people, there is a place for you here.

What We Do

The club is structured around five departments, each serving a distinct purpose:

  • Finance — Budgeting, funding, and financial planning for club activities.
  • Art — Art workshops, themed contests, and connecting members with game artists.
  • Programming — Programming workshops and mentorship for aspiring game developers.
  • Game Design — Exploring the craft of designing compelling game experiences.
  • HR/PR — Marketing, merchandise, logistics, and member relations.

Regular activities include weekly meetings, themed art contests, educational sessions on topics such as game design and game music, and field trips to professional game studios. In Summer Semester 2025, the club visited Gameforge (known for Metin2, Runes of Magic, and AION) and presented the studio with a poster made entirely from member artwork.

Flagship Project — Campus Maze

The club’s major ongoing project is Campus Maze, a cross-faculty, student-built maze and adventure game developed in the Godot game engine. The game follows a first-year student trapped in a procedurally changing version of the TUM campus, where each floor represents a different faculty and presents unique puzzles.

The target release is January 1, 2027, with the finished game published for free on itch.io and potentially on Steam. All contributors will be credited, and a public demo day is planned in coordination with the student council. Any revenue from the project goes directly to the development team.

Development timeline:

PeriodMilestone
Jan – Mar 2026Worldbuilding, story outline, core mechanics prototype, art style decisions
Apr – Aug 2026Full production: maze levels, UI/UX, music & SFX, playtesting
Sep – Nov 2026Polishing, optimization, trailer production, bug fixing
